Colbert Starts Spring Break Early with Late Show Repeat Thursday

With its final weeks fast approaching, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is heading into spring break a day early.

After airing three original episodes earlier this week, the CBS late-night series will go dark tonight, Thursday March 19, opting for a repeat as Stephen Colbert and his staff get an early jump on a planned week-long hiatus.

Thursday’s repeat (which originally aired March 10) features Michelle Pfeiffer promoting The Madison (Paramount+), along with an interview and performance by Dave Matthews.

The show is set to return on Monday, March 30, with a full week of original episodes.

Colbert is the first of the 11:35 p.m. hosts to cycle through spring breaks this year. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is slated to go dark the week of March 30, with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon following the week of April 7.

When The Late Show returns, it will enter the final stretch of its run. The show’s March 30 return will mark eight weeks remaining before Colbert’s series finale on May 21.

In recent years, Colbert has typically taken an additional week off in late April; it remains to be seen whether that pattern will hold as the show approaches its conclusion.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and is available to stream the next day on Paramount+.

Gee, tell us you live on the west coast without saying you live on the west coast… 😉

There’s another, likely better reason for the show being off tonight: March Madness on CBS. Here on the east coast, there are games scheduled for 7:00pm and 9:30pm, with affiliates’ late news tentatively scheduled for midnight and Colbert for 12:35am…provided the games don’t overrun and delay them even further. Considering the delay won’t be because of a political event (such as a speech or convention), viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones aren’t going to stay up to watch Colbert, so it may as well be a repeat. And since next Thursday would present the exact same issue, it makes sense for the show to take one of the two weeks off altogether.

I have never been so upset with a TV station as I am with the craven cowards at CBS….Shame on them for knuckling under to this miserable excuse for an administration!

CBS should be ashamed for kowtowing to The Orange Pervident currently living in OUR White House.Trump is attacking our democracy violating our rights , furthering a racist misogynistic agenda The right to express ourselves to make our
opinions known has been used to put politicians on notice..we see the crookedness and our talk show hosts and comedians have.always been the ones that point out what kind of asshats are trying to run the country. I say shame on CBS for doing Trumps bidding and cancelling The Late Show.I will definitely be boycotting
        CBS from now on!

I hope many will join me in Boycotting CBS when The Late Show ends in May. CBS has obviously (to me) bent a knee to kiss djt’s feet. Let’s see how many other popular shows djt can get cancelled in his quest for Authoritarianism. This is just my opinion and I am exercising my first amendment right to free speech.

Colbert’s last show will be the last time I ever watch CBS again. I am assuming that the reason is clear.

  5. Jean Carroll says:

After the totally unethical and immoral action CBS and Paramount inflected on one of the best , ethical and compassionate entertainers of this era, I, like I hope others, will be gladly cancelling their Paramount subscription as well as boycott CBS. I pray that other decent and intelligent persons will follow suit!

Stephen, I wish you the very best and know that you will be back with something even better!

WHAT A DISGRACE, CBS! HOPE THAT YOU ARE REPAID TEN FOLD!
