For the second week in a row, CNN is bumping its Saturday night comedy panel show Have I Got News For You to make room for breaking news coverage of the war in Iran.
Tonight’s episode of the series, taped Friday night, will not air on CNN as scheduled. Instead, the program will premiere on the CNN app at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, with the episode also set to stream on HBO Max beginning Sunday.
This week’s episode features guest panelists comedians Gianmarco Soresi and Jenny Hagel.
The preemption comes as CNN continues wall-to-wall coverage of the conflict that began a week ago with coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran early last Saturday morning. The military campaign has dominated the news cycle since, prompting the network to prioritize live reporting and analysis.
It marks the third time in seven weeks that HIGNFY has been preempted by breaking news. The first came in January after federal Border Patrol agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis the same day as the show’s Season 4 premiere.
As we’ve reported, the U.S. version of Have I Got News For You has been a solid performer for CNN since its debut in September 2024. Airing Saturdays after an encore presentation of Real Time with Bill Maher, the series is hosted by Roy Wood Jr. alongside team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black.
CNN’s re-airing of this week’s Real Time with Bill Maher is also being preempted.
it’s just not fair. Been watching these shows regularly and they keep getting preempted for 3 weeks now. shouldn’t have to subscribe to some other channel to watch because of the war.

This is one show that absolutely should not be pre-empted. Let it run on CNN (that I pay to access). I don’t want to watch it on an app!

They should make sure that they put it on CNN on demand on cable and TV providers. They often have not. This way. people with cable can access it if they don’t have HBO Max or pay for the app.
this war is going to be going on for a while so they should simulcast it on something like truTV so that way people who want to watch it live or DVR it can do so. I would say hln but a lot of providers don’t carry that or don’t carry it in HD
Even better, they should put it on TBS.
How long will we have to wait for have I got news for you to come back on? at this stage all CNN shows is never ending talks with generals, etc., and stories about the same topics over and over, hour after hour. I am unable to access the CNN app so that option to watch one of my favorite programs is not available to me. how about going back to regularly scheduled programming with an option to cut in when necessary? then schedule 1 to 2hours every night for daily highlights?

As much as I love CNN, and watch it every evening, I really look forward to having some good comedy on Saturday night. Everyone needs a break from war coverage. I refuse to pay to watch Have I Got News for you on my phone when I have your channel on my TV all the time.

I been watching Bill Maher and Have I got news for you regularly. I am so disappointed because they are not shown on a different time. I so not like to see the war on TV 24hrs. a day. I just starting to watch CNN again but now I will

You advertise Have I got news for you all week long then you preempt it two weeks in a row. Not all of your viewers have streaming. At least air it on a later date with a notification about it. The BREAKING NEWS is the same crap over and over again. This almost as bad as the Hiedi ordeal 30 some years ago.
We need comedy more than anything right now

CNN needs to pay attention to it’s dedicated viewers , of which I am one. The program “Have I Got News for You” needs to be ON tv. CNN owes us 2 shows and now it looks like it will be 3. I am sick of the decision to show only the war information 24/7. 15-20/6 would be plenty. I have now found out there are other programs on and will likely end my years long relation with CNN.
This is ridiculous. I already pay too much for cable TV and its programming, why should I have to watch HIGNFY on some app? The 24/7 coverage of the war is more than enough. An hour-long program isn’t very likely to have any impact on that coverage, especially with an undeclared war which began on a whim by an unbalanced wannabe dictator. This sounds like censorship to me and is complete b.s.
It’s just 2 hours of fantastic entertainment that we looked forward to every weekend. Please put Bill Maher and Have I Got News For You back on. We don’t have the ability to watch these anywhere else.

I don’t do streaming. I enjoyed this show every week and now you are on the way to ruining it. Having wall to wall coverage of the stupid Iran war is overdoing it. We get enough coverage from all of the networks, including CNN, that this show does not need to be pre-empted. Maybe I will just stop watching CNN all together. This show gave us a break from all the war coverage. Thanks for nothing CNN.
