Chris Redd Reteams with Broadway Video for Audible Original Headcase

Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video is behind a new comedy project from Saturday Night Live alum Chris Redd: the new scripted audio comedy Headcase.

Co-created by Redd and SNL writer Will Stephen, Headcase depicts Redd as Ghost, a neurotic hip-hop star on the rise. Following “a very public breakdown,” Ghost is forced by his label to seek therapy from a “dorky, white therapist” played by Stephen.

Headcase is described as a satirical take on the hip-hop industry, taking on topics like the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud and 6ix9ine turning snitch. But Broadway Video says it’s also an exploration of male mental health and masculinity—one that seeks to “dismantle negative stereotypes around masculinity and seeking therapy, and encourages people to take care of their mental health.”

The project also stars Joey Bada$$ as Ghost’s ex-partner, Roy Wood Jr. as his father, and Bresha Webb as his manager. Fellow SNLers Rosebud Baker, Gary Richardson, Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, and Heidi Gardner round out the voice cast.

Redd co-wrote the series with Stephen and Achilles Stamatelaky, who also directed.

Headcase reunites Redd with Michaels for the first time since his departure from SNL in 2022. (Redd also worked on two other Broadway Video series: NBC’s Kenan and Peacock’s Bust Down.

The series is one of several that Broadway Video and Audible have teamed up to release in recent months. In June, they debuted the Audible Original mystery comedy Murder at the Patel Motel. That was followed last month by The Good Life, a scripted series co-created by Ty Burrell, who also performed alongside Bobby Moynihan, Ego Nwodim, Paula Pell, and Amber Ruffin.

Headcase premieres today August 7th, on Audible.
