Chloe Fineman got a personal message from JoJo Siwa after doing an impression of the singer on Saturday Night Live.
Fineman brought the imitation to “Weekend Update” on the May 4 episode of SNL, which was hosted by Dua Lipa. Playing off Siwa’s new “bad girl era” persona, Fineman-as-Siwa bragged, “I used to be rainbow sparkles, and now I’m black sparkles. I look like if a figure skater joined a street gang.”
“From 2011 to 2023, I was eight,” the character told Colin Jost when asked her age. “But now I’m 20 and gay… I’m the first gay girl in the world.” (Siwa came out as LGBTQ in 2021.)
But Fineman wasn’t sure how the real Siwa would react to the impression. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, Fineman recalled being “terrified” of how Siwa and her “Siwanator” fanbase might respond.
“I was kind of terrified,” Fineman admitted. “She also just turned 21, and I’m a 30-year-old hag going after the young [person].”
However, Fineman’s fears were quickly assuaged. Fans saw Siwa respond publicly to the sketch, sharing the video on Instagram and calling it “iconic.” But Fineman revealed that Siwa also reached out personally to sing the SNL player’s praises.
“She sent me a voice note after I did it,” Fineman said. (The message came via Instagram the morning after the show aired.)
Fineman brought back her Siwa voice to recount what the message said: “I can’t believe you did that! I just wanna say you f***ing crushed it!”
Fineman first brought her Siwa impression to SNL in the “MasterClass Quarantine Edition” sketch during the show’s pandemic-era Saturday Night Live at Home episodes in 2020.
