Saturday Night Live’s new hires have already racked up their first minutes of screen time with a legendary alum. The show’s three new featured players take center stage alongside Amy Poehler in the first promo for this weekend’s episode.
The clip finds Poehler—who will host for the fourth time this weekend—encountering featured players Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska on the floor of Studio 8H. While the three newbies are just one episode into their run on SNL, Poehler insists she knows each of them.
Slowikowska, says Poehler, is “always sticking it to the man,” while she believes Patterson used to tear up the bars of New York’s Lower East Side with her, circa 2005. Poehler goes on to identify Culhane as the other half of her “classic will-they-won’t-they” before he calls her out.
“You have no idea who we are, do you?” Culhane asks.
“I don’t,” Poehler admits.
“I thought I was coming into this building to get a mammogram, and it turns out I’m hosting,” she adds. “I’m very nervous. And when I’m nervous, I make things up and I get face blindness and I point my fingers around a lot.”
The encounter ends with Poehler attempting to escape to Lorne Michaels’ office, unaware she’s entering a cabinet rather than an elevator.
This marks the first time Patterson and Culhane have appeared in a promo for the show, but Slowikowska’s second. She previously appeared alongside Bad Bunny in the run-up to SNL’s season premiere last weekend.
The promo also nods to Poehler’s SNL past, positioning the three newbies at the Weekend Update desk. But curiously, it makes no reference to the bigger story of SNL’s legacy going down this weekend. While SNL’s 50-year run was fêted earlier this year in the middle of its 50th season, the show premiered on October 11, 1975. The moment the cold open graces viewers’ screens on Saturday night, SNL will have officially hit the big 5-0.
Fittingly, they’ve got an alumni on hand to celebrate. Amy Poehler hosts with musical guest Role Model this Saturday, October 11th, at 11:30 PM ET / 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
