Amazon chose the lead-up to tonight’s SNL Season 50 premiere to make some news of its own: the new Colin Jost-hosted Pop Culture Jeopardy! will debut December 4th on Prime Video.
Batches of three new episodes will stream weekly on Wednesdays into 2025.
The new series from Sony Pictures Television’s Game Show Division will mark the first time that a Jeopardy! series has been created for a streaming service.
In an interview with Howard Stern earlier this month, Jost revealed that he taped 40 episodes of the Jeopardy! spin-off series over ten days this summer. He also dispelled rumors that regular Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings was upset that Jost got the gig.
Produced by Jeopardy! EP Michael Davies, the new series is set to offer a twist on the show’s classic formula, with teams of three competing against each other in a tournament-style event for the show’s grand prize.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! is set to anchor a new game show programming block on Prime Video that will also include new shows hosted by Nick Cannon, Travis Kelce, and JB Smoove. The streamer has dubbed the new block “Winning Wednesdays.”
A twenty year-veteran of Saturday Night Live’s writers room, Jost co-anchors “Weekend Update” with Michael Che. (The two celebrated their tenth anniversary as “Update” co-hosts just yesterday.) The duo also recently co-hosted New York After Dark, Peacock’s first live standup comedy event.
Jost and Che will join the rest of the SNL cast for the show’s 50th season premiere tonight on NBC and Peacock.
