Alexander Skarsgård promises to bring Saturday Night Live to new comedic… heights.
The 6-foot-4 Swede takes center-stage in a new promo for this weekend’s SNL, which will mark his hosting debut.
The docu-style short depicts featured players Veronika Slowikowska, Jeremy Culhane, and Kam Patterson reflecting on everything Skarsgård has to offer, repeatedly promising the host that he is “fitting right in” and “brings so much to the table.”
Mainly, though, they’re focused on one trait in particular: his height.
While running through sketches, the newbies repeatedly interrupt Skarsgård with requests to grab high-up items like a pen, a hat, and a football—leaving the cast members smitten and speechless.
Skarsgård takes things up a notch when Culhane admits to being stressed out about one sketch’s choreography. He offers to hoist Culhane up on his shoulders for some fresh air. As Slowikowska and Patterson beg, kid-like, for their own turns, fellow featured player Ben Marshall interrupts.
“Guys, I’m tall, too,” he says. “I could help you reach stuff.”
“Get lost, beanstalk!” Culhane shouts from atop Skarsgård’s shoulders.
“Who was that freak?” Skarsgård asks.
“I have no clue,” answers Slowikowska.
“Yeah, we don’t know who that guy is,” Patterson confirms.
Notably, the promo makes no mention of the major milestone that SNL will hit on Saturday: its 1,000th episode.
Skarsgård’s SNL debut comes on the heels of several film projects for the actor. His dark rom-com Pillion, released in the UK in November, will get a Stateside release on Friday, February 6. He also appears in the Charli XCX mockumentary The Moment, also due out this Friday. This past weekend, his latest movie, Wicker, premiered at Sundance.
Skarsgård’s stint as SNL host goes down this Saturday, January 31, with returning musical guest Cardi B.
