Michael Che’s latest Netflix stand-up special officially has a title and premiere date.
Michael Che: Shot in Minnesota will premiere globally on Netflix October 13, the streamer announced Monday. The hour was taped last month.
Netflix also released a first-look clip from the special (below), which features Che taking aim at his longtime “Weekend Update” partner Colin Jost—and, more specifically, Jost’s marriage to Scarlett Johansson.
“You know what really bothers me about Colin being married to Scarlett Johansson?” Che asks. “Is that he acts like it’s normal. Isn’t that fucking annoying? He acts like it’s not a miracle.”
Che goes on to joke about Jost inviting him to bring a date over for dinner, explaining why the women he dates may not be ideal guests at Jost and Johansson’s home.
“I don’t need her calling my phone, like, ‘I think your date stole our silverware,’” Che jokes.
LateNighter first reported in July that Che would tape the special at First Avenue, where he ultimately performed four shows across two nights on August 28 and 29.
The special marks Che’s third solo hour for Netflix, following Michael Che Matters in 2016 and Michael Che: Shame the Devil in 2021. More recently, he teamed with Jost for the 2024 Peacock special Colin Jost & Michael Che Present: New York After Dark, a live stand-up showcase from Brooklyn’s Bell House.
Che directed Shot in Minnesota and serves as an executive producer alongside Matthew Vaughan.
The announcement comes just two days after Che returned to the “Weekend Update” desk alongside Jost for Saturday Night Live’s Season 52 premiere, beginning the duo’s record 13th season as co-anchors.
