Then there were twelve.
Saturday Night Live UK has added a new face to its ensemble cast ahead of its Series 2 premiere this coming weekend.
Actor and comedian Freddie Meredith is joining the show alongside all 11 returning members of SNL UK’s inaugural ensemble.
Meredith arrives fresh off his Edinburgh Fringe debut, where his comedy show Need a Light? earned him a Best Newcomer Award nomination. His previous screen credits include the British comedies Such Brave Girls and Big Boys.
The London native cites Jamie Demetriou, Tim Key, Tina Fey, Nathan Fielder, Kristen Wiig, Steve Coogan, Steve Carell, and Julia Davis among his comedy heroes.
Asked why he wanted to join SNL UK, Meredith didn’t exactly play it cool.
“It’s a no brainer, it’s the most iconic comedy show and it looks like so much fun,” he said. “It will undoubtedly inform everything I do for the rest of my career and I can’t wait for the experience. It’s SNL!!!”
Meredith trained at drama school and began his career in theater before gravitating toward comedy, eventually adding stand-up and online sketches to his repertoire.
“Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to comedy and started doing stand-up alongside my acting work,” he said, “and that naturally led me into making short sketches online.”
He joins returning cast members Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi, and Paddy Young.
SNL UK returns Saturday, September 12 at 10 p.m. BST on Sky One. The expanded second series will run 12 episodes, with six airing this fall and another six planned for early 2027. U.S. viewers can stream episodes on Peacock Sundays.
Meredith’s arrival marks the first addition to the cast since the British adaptation launched in March.
