Veronika Slowikowska is putting a face to her newly revealed music project.
The Saturday Night Live featured player has released the music video for “I Don’t Know Why I Said That,” her latest single as Me As a Girl.
In the clip, Slowikowska sports a bright blue wig, a look she teased in several social media posts leading up to the song’s release earlier this week.
Produced by Slowikowska’s frequent collaborator Kyle Chase, the music video was directed by Michael Rees, another longtime member of her creative circle. Rees has worked with Slowikowska and Chase on several independently produced short films.
As LateNighter reported Wednesday, Slowikowska has been quietly releasing music under the name Me As a Girl since late last year. The project debuted with the single “When You Had Me You Ran Away” on Nov. 21, 2025, just weeks into Slowikowska’s first season at SNL. A four-song EP, It’s All Possible, followed in March.
“I Don’t Know Why I Said That” marks the first time Slowikowska has promoted Me As a Girl from her own social media accounts.
Though Slowikowska is best known for her comedy, Me As a Girl appears to be an earnest pop project. “I Don’t Know Why I Said That” has already earned notice from the music press, with Canadian music magazine Exclaim! naming the track a Staff Pick earlier this week, praising its “dreamy soundscape” and “windows-down, arm-waving bliss.”
LateNighter has learned that Slowikowska plans to release more music next month and is set to play her first live show as Me As a Girl in New York City in September.
