After two weeks in repeats, Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned to first-run episodes with guest host Anthony Anderson last week—and promptly reclaimed first place at 11:35 p.m. in both total viewers and adults 18–49.
According to Nielsen Live+3 data, Kimmel averaged 1.545 million total viewers for the week of Aug. 9, surging 53 percent from the previous week’s all-repeat average of 1.006 million. Among adults 18–49, the show rose 23 percent to 177,000 viewers.
The return of fresh Kimmel episodes ended a two-week run atop the 11:35 p.m. rankings for NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon averaged 1.430 million total viewers, down 8 percent from the previous week, and 164,000 adults 18–49, down 27 percent. Both shows aired four first-run episodes and one repeat.
CBS’ Byron Allen block was mixed week to week, with both hours posting gains among adults 18–49. Across its full hour, Comics Unleashed averaged 636,000 total viewers, down about 3 percent week to week, while growing approximately 9 percent in the demo to 73,000.
Funny You Should Ask fared better in both measures, averaging 454,000 total viewers across its hour, up about 6 percent, and 56,000 adults 18–49, up approximately 21 percent. Both Allen shows remain entirely in repeats until September 21.
At 12:37 a.m., ABC’s Nightline posted gains in both measures, climbing 22 percent to 826,000 total viewers and 26 percent to 92,000 adults 18–49. The program aired five first-run episodes.
NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, meanwhile, remained in repeats as the show continued its extended summer break. It averaged 702,000 total viewers, down 5 percent, and 71,000 adults 18–49, down 35 percent.
Earlier in the evening, Fox News’ Gutfeld! averaged 2.806 million total viewers, down 5 percent, and 192,000 adults 18–49, up 1 percent. The show aired five first-run episodes.
Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live averaged 358,000 total viewers, down 2 percent, and 92,000 adults 18–49, down 7 percent across five first-run episodes.
The Daily Show did not air as its summer hiatus continued, with Comedy Central airing alternate programming in its 11:00 p.m. time slot. The show is scheduled to return Sept. 8.
