Jimmy Kimmel finally got his wish.
Eight months after David Letterman invited Kimmel to appear on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction—and Kimmel admitted he’d been wondering why he hadn’t already been asked—Netflix has announced that the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host will be among Letterman’s guests for the show’s upcoming seventh season.
Kimmel will be joined by Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and climber Alex Honnold for the new batch of four episodes, which are set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
The Kimmel booking brings a satisfying payoff to Letterman’s December 2025 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, when Letterman casually floated the idea during their interview.
“By the way, you should be on that show,” Letterman told Kimmel.
“On what show?” Kimmel asked.
“My Next Guest.”
“Oh, I would love to be on your show,” Kimmel replied, prompting applause from the audience.
Kimmel then revealed that the absence of an invitation had actually been on his mind.
“Would it hurt my chances of being on the show if I told you that I sometimes lay awake at night wondering why you haven’t asked me?” he joked.
“Would it bother you that that was Netflix’s decision?” Letterman shot back.
“Oh, yeah. Less, much less. Much, much less,” Kimmel replied.
Apparently Netflix has since come around.
The pairing is a natural one. Kimmel has long cited Letterman as his broadcasting hero and a major inspiration for his own career, while Letterman has been a frequent guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and has spoken highly of Kimmel over the years.
There’s also another intriguing connection in the newly announced lineup: Matt Damon, whose long-running mock feud with Kimmel has been a recurring bit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for nearly two decades.
Season 7 follows a three-episode sixth season of My Next Guest, which premiered in December 2025 and featured Michael B. Jordan, MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), and Jason Bateman. Netflix renewed Letterman’s interview series for two additional seasons last year.
No premiere date for the new episodes has yet been announced beyond their expected arrival later this year.
As for Kimmel, his booking means we can finally scratch one name off our My Next Guest wish list. Sometimes all you have to do is ask Letterman on national television.
