Michael Che Teases New Standup Special ‘In Like 2 Months’

Michael Che announced a new standup special Monday morning in a very Michael Che way: by asking his Instagram followers where he’s supposed to promote it.

The “Weekend Update” co-anchor posted what he called a “serious question” Monday morning, telling followers he’ll be “promoting a standup special in like 2 months” while admitting he doesn’t “really do a lotta press.”

“i’ll be promoting a standup special in like 2 months.. but i don’t really do a lotta press.. so what are the platforms that people f*ck wit now?” Che wrote.

Then came the process of elimination.

“rogans finished, right..?”

“shannon sharpe prolly just gonna ask me about other people..”

“the train one..? i already did hot ones..”

“whats like the new sh*t?”

Che didn’t reveal a title, platform, or release date for the special, but the timeline he floated would put its arrival sometime in late summer or early fall..

Che, who joined Saturday Night Live in 2014, is now one of the show’s longest-tenured cast members. He currently ranks fifth all-time, behind only Kenan Thompson, Darrell Hammond, Seth Meyers, and Jost.

In addition to his work on SNL, Che also fronted the two-season HBO Max series That Damn Michael Che in 2021 and 2022.

A new solo standup special would mark his first since Michael Che: Shame the Devil, which premiered on Netflix in 2021. His previous hour, Michael Che Matters, also debuted on Netflix, in 2016. More recently, Che teamed with Colin Jost for the one-off special Colin Jost & Michael Che Present: New York After Dark, a standup showcase that aired live on Peacock from Brooklyn’s Bell House in 2024.
