The Colbert Countdown is officially on.
With CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert about to return from its final week-long hiatus, and with only a dozen new episodes left to air before the 11-year-old talker/33-year-old franchise fades to black, its third-to-last wave of guests has been revealed.
On Monday, May 4, Colbert will sit with filmmaker Christopher Nolan, whose epic, Matt Damon-led adaptation of The Odyssey hits theaters July 17. In fact, Colbert’s Instagram revealed (in the video below) that a new trailer for the summer blockbuster will premiere as part of Nolan’s appearance. Dave Grohl is the night’s other guest, followed by a performance by the Foo Fighters, who famously played a role in David Letterman’s May 2015 Late Show finale, and are coming off a turn as SNL UK musical guest and the release of their latest album, Your Favorite Toy.
Tuesday, May 5, brings the previously announced sit-down with former President Barack Obama, conducted in Chicago from the Obama Presidential Center (a combination presidential library, museum, and education project). A prestigious get with surely a lot to say, Obama will be that night’s only guest.
On Wednesday, May 6, Academy Award winner Sally Field stops by ahead of the May 8 release of her Netflix flick Remarkably Bright Creatures. There will also be a new/final round of Mother’s Day “First Drafts” with Evie McGee Colbert, plus a performance by Chris Stapleton, an Entertainer of the Year nominee at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards (streaming May 18 on Prime Video).
Closing out The Late Show‘s third-to-last run of new episodes, Thursday brings John Krasinski, who is making rounds for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, a Prime Video spinoff movie streaming May 20. We’ll then get a final “Kids Pitch” installment featuring appearances by Jenny Slate, Liam Neeson, John Oliver, Isa Briones and Taylor Dearden, and The Avett Brothers.

Will Sally Field kiss Colbert again when she enters the stage?
Maybe not; Evie will be watching.
Helen Mirren, Jeff Bridges, we are waiting.
What a STACKED lineup~😎
Tho it kinda sucks for the audience goin to the May 5th taping and it’s just the release of the Obama pre-tape; hopefully they get a lil bonus/segment/interview just to pad out the stage use~
And YES; absolutely called for 1 more final 1st Drafts~ It was either this or Colbert’s birthday, but I’m sure the Late Show team has something in store for that significant day~
Of course there’s John Oliver, all-game as usual, confirming from Anderson Cooper’s recent interview how he will be surpassed~
I’m going to miss the brilliant comedy of Stephen. sorry to see you go, but wishing the very best. Late night will be alot less interesting without you my friend.
So now in a few weeks Colbert will be gone, & now Trump wants Jimmy Kimmel off the air due to his remarks on his wife Melinda. Let Kimmel go as with Jimmy Fallon. They aren’t worth a dang anymore.
“Let Kimmel go as with Jimmy Fallon. They aren’t worth a dang anymore”
Well this comment/observation has aged badly the moment it was posted , maybe long before once you thought about it
Seems too early/too easy to call defeat~
Guess that’s the symptoms of cynicism/doomerism 🙃
After this week’s events, I wouldn’t count on Kimmel goin anywhere; for better or worse (mostly better), he’s gaining more traction when the ABC cancellation subplot was the latest recycled distraction and he didn’t waste time delivering brutal jokes/satire and 0 apologies
Fallon, meanwhile, well that all depends on how his writers/team will navigate politics and meshing it with his skillset~ maybe if he did more pre-recorded parodies/sketches…🤔 I know he’s gotta follow the cultural wave but Fallon just needs to firm his spine and commit~
it’s clear lately he, and his writers, are leaning into some anti-trump stuff…clearly to me because it’s now safe for them since Trump’s approval numbers are cratering…thing is he’s nowhere near as good at it as the the other guys, and don’t sense his heart is into it…problem for me is his other stuff, the non-political stuff, just doesn’t do it for me
If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound?
Nobody under 70 watches this garbage or even knows who these cringe lords are
If Flkfk keeled over in the woods, would anyone GAF?
Absolutely not and that’s my point.
You boomers have too much time on your hands. The world passed out by.
You’re coping soooooo hard boomdog. I have more knowledge than you do. All you boomers do is watch stale tv rather than enlightening yourselves. Nobody cares about Israel but you. LOL
Nobody cares about you overprotected crybabies! You losers aren’t going to make it in the real world, because you’re as arrogant as you are stupid!
And yet, here you are, acting like a hyperactive child in need of its Ritalin, while you expose yourself as an undemocratic anti Semite!
Yeah, you losers aren’t going to be of any use! Good luck when half the world is underwater because you cared more about killing Jews than you do about saving the planet!
If that’s true, then why don’t their studio audiences consist entirely of people over 70?
CBS is letting cancel culture and Felon Trump cancel the best late show on TV Stephen Colbert. Shame on them. They are cowards and the world knows. Shameful. You obviously do not believe in the Constitution or the First Amendment. You will come to regret it. The world knows you are cowards.
