Shane Gillis returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend for his third hosting stint in four seasons, posting yet another chart-topping screen-time tally.

While Gillis made headlines for his controversial monologue and an accidental F-bomb, several of the night’s biggest screen-time stories belonged to the cast. Grace Reiter broke out after a quiet first two weeks, Colin Jost moved into the season lead, and James Austin Johnson crossed eight hours of career screen time.

Here’s how the numbers shook out for each of this week’s named performers:

Note: Our screen time calculation method prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and most partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the opening credits, bumpers, goodnights, and cut-for-time sketches are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.

Inside the Numbers

Shane Gillis Is SNL’s Modern Screen-Time King
Excluding musical performances by double-duty hosts, Gillis logged more screen time Saturday than any other host since Jason Sudeikis in October 2021. And it wasn’t a one-off: Gillis now owns the three highest host screen-time totals by the same measure since his hosting debut in February 2024—27:11 in Season 49, 27:22 in Season 50, and 28:22 this week.

One thing that has gotten shorter with each visit is Gillis’ monologue. His opening stand-up set has dropped from 7:56 in Season 49 to 7:44 in Season 50 and 6:53 this week.

Grace Reiter Breaks Through
After finishing near the bottom of the cast in each of her first two episodes, new featured player Reiter got her first real showcase in Week 3. She made her “Weekend Update” debut as the daughter of Ashley Padilla’s “Mother Whose Babysitter Cancelled” and added appearances in three live sketches, giving her the second-highest cast screen-time total of the week.

She now has 10:50 of screen time through her first three episodes, putting her ahead of the pace set by Veronika Slowikowska over the opening three episodes of her rookie season last year.

Colin Jost Takes the Season Lead
Three episodes in, Jost has narrowly overtaken Ashley Padilla atop the Season 52 cast screen-time leaderboard. Appearing in his 252nd episode, Jost also delivered his first solo “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” while reprising Pete Hegseth for the 13th time in the last 25 episodes.

Now the third-longest-tenured cast member in SNL history, Jost marked 20 years with the show this fall, dating back to his hiring as a writer in Season 32. He’s also been remarkably consistent in front of the camera in recent years, regularly averaging at least six minutes of screen time per episode since 2020.

James Austin Johnson Finds Plenty to Do Without Trump
One week after making his 55th appearance as Donald Trump, Johnson sat out the impression entirely and instead brought back two newer characters. He played Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the cold open for the second time, then returned to “Weekend Update” as Kevin O’Leary, an impression he debuted in this season’s Jalen Brunson-hosted premiere.

Johnson also crossed eight hours of career screen time during the night’s first pretape, “Father-Daughter Song,” alongside Andrew Dismukes and Tommy Brennan. Another milestone remains within reach: Johnson would need to average roughly 2.2 appearances per episode over the rest of the season to reach 400 career SNL appearances by the finale.

Andrew Dismukes Gets a Gillis Bump
Dismukes was all over Saturday’s episode, including a starring turn as Sam-I-Am opposite Gillis in the “Green Eggs and Ham” sketch. He wound up commanding more than two and a half minutes of screen time in two separate segments, something he’s accomplished just eight times in his career.

There may also be something about a Gillis episode that agrees with Dismukes. The seven-year veteran has averaged 4:42 of screen time across Gillis’ three hosting stints, compared with 3:44 across his other 125 episodes as a cast member.
