Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire appears to have already earned itself a second fortune—and a second season.
Before airing the final two installments of The Tonight Show’s first microdrama Monday night, Jimmy Fallon announced that its first eight episodes had amassed more than 20 million views over the previous week.
Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire debuted on The Tonight Show a week ago, with Fallon, John Stamos, microdrama regular Kasey Esser, creator Delaney Rowe and comedian and Tonight Show writer Rose Kelso starring in a vertically framed sendup of the phone-sized soap operas that have become a booming genre.
The show released eight installments throughout last week before presenting episodes nine and ten during Monday’s broadcast. The series is also being distributed through The Tonight Show’s social accounts and the microdrama section of the Peacock app.
The concluding episodes revealed the source of Doug’s grudge against Chaston before ending on one last romantic twist.
After Doug disclosed that he was engaged, the doorbell rang to announce the arrival of his mystery fiancée. The screen then cut to a “To Be Continued” title card.
The Tonight Show entered the microdrama race after The Daily Show, but reached viewers first. Comedy Central had announced its own vertical political soap six days before Fallon premiered Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire, though The Daily Show has yet to reveal when its series will debut.
It wasn’t immediately clear when Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire might return, but between its 20 million views and unresolved cliffhanger, The Tonight Show appears to have left the mansion door wide open for a second season.
