Colbert to Showcase Late Show Band at Grammy Museum Event

Louis Cato and the Great Big Joy Machine—the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert— has booked a very special gig at The Ed Sullivan Theater, to be held one month out from the CBS program’s grand finale.

At The Late Show’s home base the evening of Monday, April 20, the Grammy Museum will host “A New York Evening With Louis Cato and The Great Big Joy Machine,” to celebrate the band’s upcoming self-titled album.

No less than Late Show host Stephen Colbert will moderate the conversation, which will be followed by a live performance by Louis Cato & Co. (The event will start at 8 p.m. ET, after that evening’s Late Show taping.)

Impressively yet not at all surprisingly, the free event sold out in a real hurry—less than 24 hours after being announced.

The group formerly known as “Louis Cato and The Late Show Band” announced its new name on-air in February, with help from Colbert. The rebrand doubles as the title of the group’s upcoming album, set for release April 16.

Colbert that night noted that the band’s self-titled album, The Great Big Joy Machine, will benefit the Recording Academy’s charitable arm. “All album proceeds are going to MusicCares,” he said. “So go get this album.”

The album’s first single, “Gratitude,” is available on streaming platforms.
